Dr Hewitt is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who is subspecialty-trained in Gynaecological Oncology Surgery and Colposcopy.

All pregnant patients are cared for in the Cork University Maternity Hospital.

All robotic surgery is carried out at the Cork Univeristy Maternity Hospital, other surgeries will take place at the Cork University Maternity Hospital or The Bons Secours Hospital depending on insurance cover.

Dr Hewitt sees both public and private patients with the following problems

General Gynaecology

The assessment and management of patients with

  • Abnormal menstrual cycle e.g. Heavy periods and abnormal vaginal bleeding.
  • Pelvic masses.
  • Fibroids.
  • Pelvic pain.
  • Ovarian cysts.
  • Post menopausal bleeding.
  • Abnormal appearance of cervix (if this is associated with an abnormal smear the patient should be sent directly to the colposcopy clinic - see below) 
  • Prolapse- not associated with significant incontinence

Gynaecological Oncology

  • The investigation and surgical management of female pelvic cancers.
  • Endometrial cancer (Cancer of the uterus)
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Cervical cancer
  • Vulval cancer

Colposcopy

This is the examination and treatment of the cervix following an abnormal smear.
Public and Private Patients with abnormal smears should be referred directly to St Finbarr’s Colposcopy clinic as part of the 'Cervical Check' screening service.  www.cervicalcheck.ie

Low risk Pregnancy

Dr Hewitt provides antenatal care to public and private patients.
Private patients will be seen regularly throughout their pregnancy at the Consultant Private Rooms on the Cork University Hospital Campus. Dr Hewitt will attend the delivery of the baby but on occasions when he is unable to be present at the delivery another consultant will be in attendance.

Late Miscarriage due to cervical incompetence

Patients with late miscarriage due to cervical incompetence are assessed for insertion of a robot-assisted cervical cercalge.
